What is Open Pedagogy?
Open Pedagogy is collaboratively learning where student doesn’t just absorb knowledge, they produce knowledge. This is a very open, sharing, and creative approach to courses that allows both students and educators to collaborate in developing those course materials. Through barriers breaking and co creation Open Pedagogy can shift to less engaging and inclusive learning environment that supports more diverse learners.
The Role and Impact of OER
Open Educational Resources (OER) are assets that are accessible, adaptable and can be used to serve different learning needs. Accessible worldwide, free, and the resources are free to use and can be tailored to educators specific courses rather than just a one size fits all model. Apart from being a powerful tool to increase affordability in education, OER also help to eliminate the financial barriers to students of any backgrounds so as to enjoy the learning materials. Watch the video below for a quick overview of how OER can help students succeed by providing affordable, flexible education.
Global Trends in OER
The shift to inclusivity—making resources that are culturally relevant and accessible for learners from everywhere—are key trends in OER that really stand out. OER is increasingly adopted by countries and institutions often with government funding behind. While there are still some bumps in the road — like the digital divide and not having consistent support or training in some places — the overall results are pretty solid.
Creative Commons Licensing
The creative commons licenses really help since they spell out what’s allowed on educational resources and how they can be used, shared, or even modified. By knowing what these licenses are and how they work, I can work legally and respectably with other people’s work — and if I do work, I can choose a license to make others able to build on it. Responsible sharing and attribution are about giving credit where credit is due, so it’s all about that.

Attributes of Open Pedagogy
For me open pedagogy includes collaborative projects, sharing resources and providing feedback, but in a learning space. When I share sources openly and transparently I can also make this space more interdependent and allow others to mentally connect with and learn from each another. I want to continue being active and involvement as much as I can especially with a student centered approach in which I share my own insights and learning. Not only is that a more engaging approach, it’s also a way to foster a community which supports each other’s growth.
